Remarks:

One of the seven 1954 Veil paintings initially in the collection of the Lannan Foundation was originally titled Stand So We Must. A painting with that title was shown in 1959 at French & Company in New York and appeared in the exhibition catalogue as no. 29. It was lent to the exhibition by Miss Astrea Mattos, who later gave the painting to J. Patrick Lannan. Mr. Lannan does not recall which one of his Louis paintings formerly belonged to Miss Mattos. It was not possible to examine the backs of the canvases to locate a title. The paintings in question appear on this website as numbers DU53, DU54, DU55, DU56, DU57, DU61, and DU68.
